The higher carbon content of AISI 4340 gives greater rigidity and heat treatment capabilities in comparison to AISI 4130, however it does have inferior weldability characteristics

The AISI SAE 4340 Round Bar specification covers 30 standard chemistries. Radisson Impex offers these chemistry-only alloy plate grades in the three most commonly used chemistries. 4340 is the standard for medium carbon chromium-molybdenum alloy with excellent response to quench. Our 4340 is modified to include a small amount of vanadium for even better hardening. 4340 includes nickel for higher overall hardness and superb through hardening. 4340 is alloyed for as-rolled core strength but can be readily carburized.
AISI 4340 Alloy Steel Hex Bar is an iron-based alloy containing nickel, molybdenum and chromium. The relatively high carbon content provides this alloy steel with superior strength in applications where severe service conditions exist.
